Gorgon City drop new song "Zoon Zoom"
The English garage duo joins forces with Wyclef Jean for an exclusive tribal track
It’s easy to see how Gorgon City are cementing themselves as an integral part of the house party scene. The north London based duo have a knack for producing addictive beats chiming with unhinged energy—and today’s release is yet another triumph. Collaborating with Wyclef Jean, “Zoom Zoom” booms a house-heavy bass line, decorated with the overlay of tribal drums and pumped-up chants. The resultant sound channels a fresh, carnivalesque feel that combines the melodic grounding of both artists.
The track was produced late last year when members Matt Robson-Scott and Kye Gibbon made a fleeting visit to New Jersey for some studio time with Jean. “Zoom Zoom” took just two days to write and produce, and stands as the latest addition to their Kingdom project, which has already picked up momentum with tracks, “All Four Walls,” “Smoke” and “Impaired Vision” featuring Tink and Mikky Ekko.
As evidenced in the euphoric catchiness of the single, Gorgon City viewed the collaboration as a high honor, above all else. The duo explained: ”Working with Wyclef was amazing, after growing up on his and The Fugees' music it was pretty surreal... He is extremely talented and has insane ideas, we'll never forget it!” And this is a well-founded comment; it’s refreshing to witness the glowing collision of a Haitian musical hero with youthful, contemporary house. Track after track, Gorgon City entwine the pulse of today’s basement party with colorful tokens of culture and overlapping genre.
The duo are currently gearing up for a series of summer festivals, as well as their long awaited UK homecoming tour this fall. Listen to "Zoom Zoom" in full below.
