Joan Rivers' private collection is being auctioned at Christie's

Precious Jewels, Dog Statues, Artwork and Kitchen Utensils, and fashion pieces make up the collection

Today, the “Private Collection of Joan Rivers” goes to auction at Christie’s in New York.  The collection—which varies from elaborate clothing to affluent furnishings—brings together the late comedian’s prized possessions in an eclectic mix of color, costume and art.

In sight of presenting each item in its rightful light, as well as making the experience authentic, items will be lain out exactly as they were found in Rivers’ home. Formally, the auction will be set up as an exhibition of sorts, designed to mirror The Fashion Police star’s Upper West Side apartment. Considering the items up for grabs will include well-loved home items, including polished furniture and kitchenware, such planning seems quite apt.

Aside form mundane utensils, the auction will of course include a selection of Rivers’ more exquisite (and expensive) pieces.  As far as fashion goes: multiple Oscar de la Renta dresses will be up for auction, including her Ochre evening gown and cape worn to the 1990 Tony Awards ($1,200-$1,800 estimate). In addition, buyers will be able to bid on countless Chanel bags and fine jewellery from Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels and Buccellati. All of which glitter in flamboyance, in very much the same way Rivers did.

Along with physical layout, the gallery hopes to imitate the comedian’s spirit as closely and accurately as possible. White walls are marked with some of her most memorable, light-hearted quotes including “I don’t exercise. If God wanted me to bend over, he would have put diamonds on the floor,” as well as“ When I play a town, I ask to see the art museum and antiques section. Over the years, you pick up a lot of great works—and ideas.”

And it’s all for a good cause: a portion of the proceeds will go to the two charities Rivers championed, God’s Love We Deliver and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
